The Grand

The Grand is a 333-unit luxury high-rise apartment building with thirty-six storeys and a lower ground level, situated at Ward Place in the prestigious Colombo 7 residential area of the Capital City. The Developers, Prime Lands Group selected DG5 as the architectural designers for their first high-rise luxury apartment project, based on DG5’s credentials in high-rise building design.  

The design sets out to create a single residential tower distinct in its form with two wings interconnected by a central circulation and service core. The primary feature of the design is the large, dense floor plate that accommodates fourteen numbers of two & three bedroom units per floor at the 20 typical apartment levels.  The building was designed with such a compact floor plate to maximize the building efficiency as required by the Developer. Thirty-three numbers of four bedroom units are accommodated across the next five levels while luxury duplex apartments and penthouses are located at the top levels. 

The apartments have airy interiors with light timber finishes and white interior spaces forming cosy rooms. Black light fittings and other feature objects serve to bring about a contrast which elevates the richness of the interior spaces. Internally, the rooms are also animated by accent feature walls that provide a complimentary expression to the calming interiors. The architecture actively harnesses views around the building, allowing for multiple windows and balconies that open out to the distant landscape. The common lobby spaces also contain open glazed voids bringing in natural sunlight even at higher elevations.  

The podium block supporting the residential levels, houses parking facilities within a split-level arrangement across four floors. The top level of the podium lodges the common amenities for residents which includes a swimming pool, kids pool, gymnasium, badminton court, spa, supermarket, billiard room, café, children’s play area and multifunctional hall. 

A second swimming pool, touted to be one of the longest indoor pools in Sri Lanka at 70m in length, is provided at the 32nd level of the complex. This swimming pool is an infinity pool that encircles the tower providing panoramic views of the cityscape. Surrounded by a canopy shaded pool deck, and high-level planting, the pool is set to provide a unique swimming experience.
