Iceland Residencies
One of the early high-rise luxury apartment complexes in Sri Lanka, The Iceland Residencies is a thirty-three storey residential complex housing 116 apartments as well as a swimming pool, restaurant, gymnasium, retail store and mini-jogging track. The site is situated in a prime location in the thriving commercial area of Colombo 03, harbouring views to the sea, the Galle Face Green and the city edge.
The complex comprises of a podium block with recreational amenities, a collection of studio apartments and two basement parking levels. The entertainment areas the podium include a 24m length swimming pool with a jacuzzi and a children’s pool, a squash court, a game room and a generous landscaped terrace area.
The residential floors, elevated from the 6th level, house spacious three & four bedroom apartment units and luxury penthouses at the uppermost levels. Access to the four residential units on each level is provided through an efficient central elevator and service core arrangement. The linear orientation of the complex maintains privacy to each unit. The apartments, along with the shared circulation spaces, capture the panoramic views along the Colombo coastline and the Galle Face Green public park.
The entrance to the complex bears testimony to the luxury of the spaces within. A sizeable semi-indoor water body is adorned with fountains and greenery to cool the entrance while also contributing towards its grandeur. Floating platforms and a glazed entrance lobby absorbs the effects of the waterbody enriching the interior spatial quality.
The structural system for the high-rise tower comprises of a column-free shear wall system cast from in-situ panels which was a notable feature in high-rise construction in the country at the time of its completion. A key element of the exterior treatment is the use of pre-cast concrete panels as a wall cladding system which was another novelty at that time.
The Iceland Residencies was awarded at the Asia Pacific Residential Property Awards in 2011.
