The new headquarters tower for People’s Bank was conceptualised to project confidence and the solidity of the Peoples Bank whilst showcasing the stature of this long-standing, reputable state bank. Situated at a prominent corner along Union Place, adjoining Hyde Park Corner, the tower’s splayed entrance responds elegantly to the site’s natural curvature, creating a welcoming and inviting entryway. The linear, twenty-two-storey form features a distinctive splayed edge that ascends halfway up the tower, gradually tapering the floor plates to create a unique silhouette against the Colombo skyline.

The design of the tower is driven by both the functional needs and the future growth potential of the bank. The spatial configuration is carefully tailored to the bank’s organizational structure, while maintaining flexibility to accommodate future changes and expansion.

The tower’s facilities include a grand reception area with information counters and a self-banking section on the ground floor, thirteen office levels, and a premier bank branch on the first level. It also features a state-of-the-art auditorium with a 250-seat capacity, a dedicated staff dining level, and technical spaces such as a central UPS server room, BMS, and IT services. The upper floors include two executive levels, complete with a double-height roof garden, and the apex of the tower houses a shrine room and a studio. Parking is provided across three basement levels.

DG5 was also the successful bidder for the complete interior design scope, delivering a vision that balances the functional solidity of a state-owned financial institution with the approachable warmth of a bank that connects with its people. The interior design incorporates statement art pieces from the bank’s collection, reflecting its commitment to preserving its rich legacy while embracing a forward-looking future.
