Situated in Lotus Road, Colombo 01, the high-rise Head Office complex for the Sri Lanka Ports Authority is being constructed with the aim of improving the efficiency of the Port Service while accommodating all staff of the authority and other related organizations under one roof. The project is also part of the Port Elevated Highway Project that aims to ease the traffic congestion within the port.
The design, distinct in its architectural form, comprises of seventeen storeys and three additional service levels on top with a built-up area of 39,700sqm, and houses fourteen office levels, a fully-fledged state-of-the-art auditorium with 330 seating capacity, staff canteens & associated kitchen facilities and ancillary services. Breaking the uniformity of the building envelope, a steel curved façade with solar photovoltaic panels and an expandable mesh extends from the fifth level to the twentieth level as a distinctive building feature. Specialist structural design solutions were developed to realize the design intent of the screen. The design also adopts a sophisticated Building Management System (BMS) to streamline operations within the premises.
DG5 is engaged by the JV formed by China Civil Engineering Construction Coorporation & China Railway Construction Group to be the Lead Design Partner for the Detailed Design and BIM coordination of the project.
