Maritime Facilitation Center (MFC)
Located on Lotus Road in the heart of Colombo, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s new high-rise headquarters is designed to enhance operational efficiency while consolidating all staff and associated organizations under one roof. The development also aligns with the Asia Development Bank Funded USD 300mn Port Elevated Highway Project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion within the port.
Architecturally distinct, the building features seventeen floors with three additional service levels, covering a total built-up area of 39,700 sqm. It includes fourteen office levels, a state-of-the-art auditorium seating 330 people, staff canteens, kitchen facilities, and other necessary amenities. A standout feature is the steel curved façade with integrated solar photovoltaic panels, extending from the fifth to the twentieth floor, complemented by an expandable mesh that breaks the uniformity of the building envelope. Advanced structural design solutions were developed to bring this vision to life.
DG5 played a crucial role as the Lead Design Partner, commissioned by the joint venture between China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China Railway Construction Group. Our team created a comprehensive and detailed BIM model that covered all aspects of architecture, structural engineering, MEP systems, and interior design—up to the construction drawings stage. Additionally, our scope included the design and coordination of the interior spaces, ensuring a seamless and cohesive design throughout. The project also incorporates a sophisticated Building Management System (BMS) to streamline building operations.
*The Preliminary Concept Design was carried out by Messrs CECB for the RFP.
