Havelock City Club House
Sprawling across a 17 acre site and comprising of eight residential towers, an office tower and a shopping mall, Havelock City is the largest mixed development project on a single cleared site in Colombo. Engaged as the Local Consultant, DG5 worked on the project alongside the Principal Architects ECADI of Shanghai.
Whilst DG5’s main role was to review and advise on local design parameters and requirements pertaining to the development, DG5 was also tasked with designing the 4,500 sqm luxury Club House for the scheme. Conceptualized as a relatable interlude in the architectural language of the complex, the Club House was designed incorporating a distinctively local feel. The four storeyed, hip roofed structure, opening out to the 7 acre lush podium garden at the second level, houses a restaurant, bar, three banquet halls including a double height multi-functional hall, two squash courts, gymnasium and other amenities. The building sits on a carefully curated landscape surrounded by vast, luscious garden areas for which DG5 worked with renowned artist and landscaper Laki Senanayake. A long rectilinear pool accentuates the simplicity of the structure while also artfully reflecting the residences and surrounding trees.
Facing these open spaces are broad verandas that blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior. The cooling verandas are comfortably furnished allowing for semi-outdoor space use and fully capitalises on the lush greenery and pool in its surroundings. The building and its immediate landscape both reflect a sense of linearity.
